May Day March Downtown Los Angeles 2006
A May Day march in Los Angeles on Monday is expected to draw a record 100,000 demonstrators to protest the policies and anti-immigrant rhetoric of President Donald Trump.
The Resist Los Angeles march, hosted by a coalition of more than 100 labor, immigrant-rights and faith-based groups, will begin at MacArthur Park and end at City Hall.
It will also trumpet speeches from leading Los Angeles officials and labor leaders, including state Sen. Kevin De Leon, L.A. County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, Mayor Eric Garcetti and Rusty Hicks of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.
“We feel the hate, the division, the anti-Muslim sentiment and dangerous policies that this administration is trying to move forward is threatening human rights,” said Jorge-Mario Cabrera, spokesman for the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles.
“This year, we’re honoring the unity and diversity of our nation, which is currently being threatened by the Trump administration.”
