
Sierra Canyon strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They breezed past the Downey Vikings to the tune of 49-7. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Trailblazers just coasted through the last quarter.
Sierra Canyon’s success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaxsen Stokes led the charge by rushing for 102 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Another pass catcher making a difference was De’Markus Barnes, who picked up 117 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sierra Canyon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 254 rushing yards. That’s the most rushing yards they’ve posted since back in October of 2024.
Sierra Canyon didn’t go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Barnes and Madden Riordan. Barnes got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Sierra Canyon’s victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Downey, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
Looking ahead, Sierra Canyon will head out on the road to face off against Orange Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Downey, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Inglewood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
