Rosemead Rebels Win Championship without Head Coach

The game started like anyone can expect when playing the Covina Vikings, with drama. The

covina staff began with a complaint to the refs and the SGVJAA board about the Legitimacy

of the Rosemead head coach. When the coach filled out his application, he incorrectly put

his last name first and first name last. This clerical error was not caught by the team’s ADs

or the SGVJAA football board nor was it apparently caught by the Covina staff the first time

the Rosemead Rebels beat them 16-14 in week 6 of the 2025 season. Because of this

clerical error the head coach Tony Rosales, as covina put it, Rosales Tony, was not allowed

on the sideline for the championship game. This is one of the many tricks that the Covina

Vikings spend their time on to try to beat other teams. With the number of athletes that

they have on their team you would figure that they would spend more of their time

developing the athletes and teaching them how to properly play the game, but that’s for

their head coach and their staff to answer.

The first quarter and a half started out as a great game. Both teams were trying to figure out

what was going to get them in the end zone. The rebels were the first to establish their

dominance as they drove the ball but came up short on a couple of third downs. This

caused the Vikings to have to come up into the box and try to play a more stout defense. In

doing so halfway through the second quarter rebels running back #0 was able to catch a

pass on the flat, break 2 tackles, and run for a 35-yard touchdown. Rebels’ kicker #51, who

has been consistent throughout the year, missed the PAT. The rebels were able to play solid

defense and took a 6-0 lead into the half.

The second half started with rosemead kicking off to the Covina Vikings and what would

you know, they were ready with a trick play, and it worked. #7 from Covina threw a

backwards pass to #30 who ran for a 64-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Unfortunately

for covina that was the most success they would have with the ball. On the ensuing drive

the rebels would March down the field and score primarily running the ball with #1 #0 and

#12. The next covina possession ended with the interception by #33 from the rebels who

ran for a 37-yard touchdown. Now with a 12-6 lead over covina the rebels didn’t look back.

Rosemead’s offense went on to score two more times and converted both PAT’s which at

this level counts for two points. Covina’s offense never really got going and that was due in

part to a very stingy Rebel defense which has been stout throughout the playoffs shutting

out the offenses of Boyle Heights, Pico Rivera, and now, Covina.

There’s only one thing left to say to head coach Tony Rosales or Rosales Tony or whoever

was the head coach of the Rosemead Rebels, and that’s congratulations on a great season.

May you (whatever your name is), your staff, your players, and parents enjoy your

championship season.
