My name is Samantha Islas I am the pitcher at Roosevelt High School and I also play travel ball with So Cal Athletics Medina/ADC. I recently received the Division I L.A All City pitcher of the year for my high school softball season. I want to give a huge shout out to my mom and my dad Peter Islas and Ariana Helguera. Due to them always supporting me and pushing me to be great I accomplished a big goal in my junior season, which is receiving this award. It means a lot to me because I come from a low income community where people say we won’t accomplish anything in life, well look at me, look at what I’m doing, look at this accomplishment, a girl from the ghetto just received Division I All City Pitcher of the Year! I want all the kids that live in the Inner-City or in a low income community know that we can do it, don’t let no one tell you different because we are strong and we also have goals in life, just as long as you put your mind to it and work hard! I would also like to thank Coach Carbajal and my teammates for having my back day in and day out because i couldn’t have done it without them.
