Metro built a rail line that provides riders a seamless journey from Azusa to Long Beach and from East Los Angeles to Santa Monica, through the downtown LA core. The project includes three new underground stations and extends from the L Line (Gold) in Little Tokyo and Arts District communities to the A (Blue) and E (Expo) Lines at 7th Street/Metro Center Station.
June 16th, Metro opened three shiny new Metro rail stations in downtown LA, marking the completion of the Regional Connector Transit Project. We’re combining the A, E and L Lines into two rail lines — the new A and E Lines. That means more direct rides between Azusa, East LA and beaches — connecting our riders to many of the places they want to be. Ride Metro bus, rail, Metro Bikes, and Metro Micro for free during opening weekend.
The A and E Lines will share three new stations in downtown Los Angeles. The stations will allow new rail access to the core of downtown and easier rail, bus and bike transfers in all directions.

At noon on June 16th, the E Line will change to a new gold color, and will provide faster, transfer-free rides between Santa Monica and East LA. The E Line will deliver you to the Santa Monica Pier, Disney Hall and other DTLA attractions, and vibrant shops and restaurants in East LA. See the new E Line schedule (effective June 16 at noon)
So long, L.
(And other important changes to note.)
At noon on June 16th, the part of the current L Line between Little Tokyo/Arts District Station and APU/Citrus College Station will become part of the A Line. The part of the L Line between Little Tokyo/Arts District Station and Atlantic Station will become part of the E Line. The color for this part of the line will remain gold.
And good news: once the new service opens, the L Line Shuttle will go away. The new A Line will connect Union Station and Little Tokyo/Arts District Station.
