It’s playoff time, and Roosevelt had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Wilson Mules on Saturday. The win was familiar territory for the Rough Riders, who have now won four contests in a row.
Maddoxx Davila and Ivan Gonzalez made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Davila pitched 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Gonzalez pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn’t given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Davila got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. That’s the most stolen bases Davila has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Roman Ornelas was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Izaiah Cortez, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Roosevelt kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That’s a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they’ve averaged 9.2.
Roosevelt’s record is now 8-17. As for Wilson, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.
Looking ahead, Roosevelt will face off against Kennedy at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday at East L.A College 2:30pm
