Monrovia defeated Eagle Rock 51-41 on Thursday, August 28, 2025, thanks to a strong running game and a high-scoring offensive performance. While the final score was 51-41, the actual game recap shows Monrovia won with a score of 41-51. Troy Grise led the offense with 144 receiving yards and two touchdowns, plus 88 rushing yards and a touchdown. Jesse Saucedo also contributed significant yardage, throwing for 304 yards and three touchdowns.
Eagle Rock lost against Monrovia back in August of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Eagles fell 51-41 to the Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can’t take it too hard given the team’s big disadvantage in MaxPreps’ California football rankings (they are ranked 588th, while the Wildcats are ranked 246th).
Monrovia got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Troy Grise out in front who picked up 144 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, and also rushed for 88 yards and one score on only seven carries. Grise also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble and making nine total tackles. Another signal caller making a difference was Jesse Saucedo, who threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.8 yards per attempt.
Eagle Rock’s loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Monrovia, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eagle Rock will square off against Bell at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Monrovia, they will head out to square off against Roosevelt at 7:00 p.m. on September 5.
