The Roosevelt (Los Angeles, CA) varsity softball team won Thursday’s home playoff game against Sylmar (CA) in extra innings by a score of 7-6.
This game is a part of the “CIFLACS Softball Playoffs – Division I” tournament.
The Lady Riders were down 4-3 in the bottom of the 7th inning when junior Daniela Franco hit a solo home run to tie the game. The Lady Spartans would score two runs in the 9th and it looked like they were going to steal the game but the Lady Riders would rally with one out having bases loaded. Sophomore Alexis Romero who had been brought up from junior varsity and was filling in for injured shortstop Alexis Reyna came to bat and delivered on a fastball and hit a hard single to left center field and brought in two runs to tie the game. Next batter sophomore Jaclyn Santiago would fly out to shallow right when the fielder made a diving catch but could not get a throw off to home plate as Samantha Islas would tag up and score the winning run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
Junior pitcher Samantha Islas allowed 2 earned runs in 9 innings, had 11 strikeouts and 1 walk. She also had 2 hits including a double, and 2 runs batted in.
