El Sereno Mural Honors Kobe Bryant

Jorge Parrales – Casual Living Murals

Proud to have donated this project to the beautiful people of El Sereno. The mural is located on the corner of Eastern ave and Gambier St. We wanted to pay homage to a great public figure, throughout this tragedy there was unity felt all over the world, my condolences go out to all victims and families who lost a loved one in this horrible accident . Los Angeles has lost one of their own and I wanted to show that in this piece, a piece of L.A has left us . Thank you Kobe for the memories #MambaOut

  • The project came about when Julio Torres Area Director of Council District 14 got a call from his childhood friend Ricky Cazarin who both attended El Sereno Middle School and played basketball growing up. Ricky who works at Home Depot in Cypress Park had asked Julio if he was able to get a local owner to donate a wall for a Kobe Bryant mural, If so he would be able to get the supplies donated to the artist. Ricky contacted local artist Jorge Parrales and met onsite with Julio at a frequently tagged grocery store Highland Market on Eastern ave and Gambier St in El Sereno.

The mural symbolizes purple and gold the same colors as El Sereno Middle School located across the street.

Councilman Jose Huizar said he will have a contractor apply anti graffiti coating so the mural can be protected and hopefully stay up for a long time.
